US war planes prepare to leave the war ship for attack missions in Iran, as the conflict escalates
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The ongoing war involving the United States, Israel and Iran has left hundreds dead across the Middle East, with the heaviest casualties reported in Iran as intense air and missile strikes continue between the rival sides.
According to Iranian state media, at least 940 people have been killed in Iran following waves of airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel. The strikes have targeted military installations, government facilities and other strategic sites as Washington and Tel Aviv seek to weaken Iran’s military capability.
Among the dead are civilians caught in the escalating conflict. One of the deadliest incidents occurred when a school building in Iran was struck by a munition believed to have been fired by U.S. forces. Preliminary findings from a U.S. investigation suggest an American weapon was responsible for the strike, which killed more than 160 people, including children.
The attack has intensified international concern about civilian casualties as the conflict widens and urban areas increasingly become battlegrounds.
The war also claimed the lives of six U.S. service members, whose bodies are expected to be returned to the United States in a dignified transfer ceremony scheduled in Dover. President Donald Trump is expected to attend the ceremony honoring the fallen soldiers.
Despite suffering far fewer casualties than Iran, Israel has also experienced deaths and injuries from Iranian retaliation. Iranian missile attacks have killed at least 11 people in Israel, as Tehran responds to the air campaign targeting its territory.
The conflict has also spilled beyond the two main countries involved. In Lebanon, Israeli strikes have reportedly killed 217 people, further raising fears that the war could evolve into a broader regional confrontation.
The violence intensified after the killing of Iran’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, during strikes carried out earlier in the war. His death has triggered political uncertainty within Iran, where senior clerics are now working to select a new national leader.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signaled a possible shift in Tehran’s military posture, saying Iran would no longer launch missile attacks against neighboring countries unless those nations first attack Iran. However, he rejected calls from Washington for Iran’s “unconditional surrender.”
Meanwhile, President Trump has vowed that further military action against Iran remains under consideration, warning on social media that Iranian targets could soon be “hit very hard.” He also suggested that additional areas and groups inside Iran were being evaluated for possible strikes.
As the fighting continues, thousands of American citizens remain stranded across parts of the Middle East due to ongoing missile exchanges and airspace disruptions.
With the death toll climbing and tensions showing little sign of easing, the war between the United States, Israel and Iran is rapidly becoming one of the deadliest confrontations in the region in recent years. Analysts warn that unless diplomatic efforts emerge soon, the humanitarian toll—already severe—could rise even further.
UK Involvement
The war has spread beyond Israel and Iran, directly affecting at least 11 countries, including Lebanon (where Hezbollah is attacking Israel) and various Gulf states where U.S. bases have been targeted.
While initially staying out of direct offensive actions, the UK has drawn closer to the conflict by providing non-operational support and allowing the U.S. to use British bases for defensive actions to intercept Iranian missiles. The HMS Prince of Wales has been placed on higher readiness.
President Trump has demanded an “unconditional surrender” from Iran, signaling a potentially long-term military campaign. The U.S. has hit over 3,000 targets in Iran.
