
The Bazukulu have been blamed for the robberies
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Authorities have issued a statement about the apprehension of 21 individuals linked to a series of robberies that occurred in Kampala on June 28th at approximately 2 PM. These incidents took place near the National Theatre and the UBC roundabout.
Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police, said among those arrested were two women who were dressed in yellow NRM T-shirts and were en route to Kyadondo to witness President Museveni’s nomination as a presidential candidate and NRM chairman for 2026-2031.
The rally drew a diverse crowd, including motorists, pedestrians, and business people.
Police reported that they utilized CCTV footage to track down these criminals in various locations. The suspects are currently being held at CPS Kampala and Wandegeya Police Station.
Victims provided statements, and a case files are being prepared for judicial proceedings. The charges include assault and petty theft. Additional footage is under review by the Police to identify suspects involved in further incidents.
The suspects, a sizable number of whom were putting on yellow T-shirts, targeted people heading to Kyadondo to witness the nomination of the head of state.
One suspect was injured while trying to flee and is receiving treatment. Police urge anyone who was victimized but hasn’t reported to the police to come forward immediately,” a Police statement on their X handle reads.
Videos circulating on social media depicted these unruly youths in yellow NRM T-shirts assaulting individuals while asserting their identity as Bazzukulu, a term used by Museveni to refer to the nation’s youth, claiming they are entitled to act without restraint.
