First introduced in 2012 under the leadership of former Executive Director Jenifer Musisi, the Kampala City Festival quickly gained popularity and grew into one of the largest street festivals in East Africa. It became a major annual event that brought together thousands of people from across Uganda to celebrate culture, creativity, business, and innovation. However, the event was suspended in 2018 amid criticism over funding priorities and a shift towards more development-focused city planning.
With its revival now confirmed, excitement has been rekindled among city dwellers and businesses who view the festival as a major opportunity for celebration and networking. KCCA has promised a rebranded edition that will showcase Kampala’s transformation and community spirit.
