Medard Ssenona, MP Busiro East
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The Busiro East MP, Medard Ssegona, has voiced his disappointment with the National Unity Platform (NUP) and its leader, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, aka Bobi Wine.
His frustration comes after the party awarded the Busiro East flag bearer position to Kadongo Kamu singer, Mathias Walukaaga, leaving him out.
Speaking to supporters at his Buddo residence, Ssegona recounted his role in Bobi Wine’s entry into politics, including his efforts to support the former Kyadondo East MP during critical moments. He particularly referenced the 2018 treason charges against Bobi Wine, emphasizing that he personally helped secure his release.
“It’s painful to be pushed aside by someone you helped rise,” Ssegona said, his tone heavy with disappointment.
He went on further to describe a time when Bobi Wine and his wife, Barbie, were under threat, and how he voluntarily accompanied them in a car to ensure their safety. “When others were scared, I sat in that car with Bobi and Barbie, knowing my presence would protect them,” he recalled.
Ssegona also noted that he has been instrumental in supporting Bobi Wine not just once, but on multiple occasions, including when Bobi was detained at Nalufenya. Additionally, he emphasized that he was among the party’s earliest members and encouraged many to adopt the NUP membership card during past elections.
“I was labeled a gangster for standing with Bobi Wine — yet now I’m being treated as an outsider,” he lamented.
He added that it is disheartening to see recent entrants to the party being prioritized over those who laid its foundation.
Bobi Wine had earlier on described Ssegona as ambitious and proud.
