HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Deep sorrow has engulfed the Uganda Christian University (UCU) community and the human rights fraternity following the untimely death of Angella Namirembe, a third-year Law student at UCU Kampala Campus.
Namirembe, known for her passion for human rights and social justice, was involved in a bodaboda accident on Monday, October 20, 2025, while returning from campus. Eyewitnesses say she was knocked down by a motorcycle and rushed to Mulago Hospital, where she later succumbed to severe head injuries.
In an official statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Uganda Christian University expressed heartbreak over her death:
“We regret to inform you of the passing of Angela Namirembe, a Uganda Christian University student at the UCU Kampala Campus, who was pursuing a Bachelor of Laws (Year 3). She succumbed today, to a road crash that happened yesterday, Monday, October 20, 2025. We commiserate with her family, friends and loved ones. Please uphold them in prayer during this difficult time.”
The tragedy has drawn emotional reactions from several public figures and relatives. Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze mourned her niece in an emotional post:
“My niece Angella Namirembe – eliminated at the best of her life. Bannange omwanawattu bamuoimeredde ku bodaboda nga agenda ku University okusoma. Naffa nga bamutuusa ku ddwaliro. Mpuliira ng’ensi enguddeko!”
Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago also expressed his grief, writing:
“Beyond devastation!!! Speechless!!… ANGELLA NAMIREMBE . Can’t believe it. Gone too soon my little Angel. Kitalo nyo.”
According to reports, bodaboda accidents continue to claim many lives in Uganda, with over 1,000 deaths and more than 2,000 injuries recorded this year alone.
Namirembe’s passing is a painful reminder of the dangers faced by road users, and a heartbreaking loss to the UCU community and all who knew her.
