Anna Talia Oze
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Sanyuka TV presenter and businesswoman Anna Talia Oze has voiced her disappointment with the government’s response to the recent floods that destroyed property around the Nakivubo Channel in Kampala.
Speaking to the media, Anna Talia said the compensation plan announced by the Office of the Prime Minister was unfair and poorly handled. She argued that many traders were left out because no proper assessment was done to determine how much each person lost.
“I saw some traders celebrating the decision, but it’s not fair,” she said. “Beyond the goods that got destroyed, people still have rent to pay, banks demanding loan repayments, and URA calling for taxes. There’s no relief at all.”
Anna Talia revealed that a URA officer called her just a day earlier, and when she tried to explain her situation, he bluntly told her, “We don’t want to know.”
She further explained that many traders operate without trading licenses and are now worried they will miss out on any help. Others fear declaring their actual losses because they might attract higher taxes from URA.
Responding to online rumors that her businesses are funded by powerful government officials such as Gen. Salim Saleh, Anna Talia dismissed the claims, saying she has been running her own ventures since 2016. She even invited independent auditors to go through her accounts to prove she’s self-made.
“I’m not trying to lead anyone,” she clarified. “I just want fairness. If this continues, many traders may give up or close their shops altogether.”
