HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I One of Uganda’s most celebrated musicians, Moses Ssali, popularly known as Bebe Cool, has shared his thoughts on the possibility of collaborating with fellow artist-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, alias Bobi Wine.
The two prominent Ugandan musicians have been rivals for over two decades, with their musical differences often spilling over into political disagreements. This is because they belong to different political camps.
During a recent interview on a local radio station, the Gagamel CEO was questioned about the chance of working in the studio with his adversary. Bebe Cool responded that this would only happen if the NUP leader stops letting politics cloud his judgment and making unnecessary enemies.
“Bobi Wine and I can only collaborate if he sets aside his political biases and realizes that politics shouldn’t force him to create unnecessary foes. For now, that possibility is not on the table,” Bebe said.
The artist, who has just launched his Break The Chains Album which he is currently promoting, also reflected on what led to the decline of their friendship. The two musicians were a dominant force in the early 2000s and even recorded the classic song, Funtula, together.
According to the singer of Hidden Agendas, while it’s true they were once friends, he doesn’t remember anything particularly significant about their relationship.
In fact, Bebe Cool mentioned that he has no fond memories of their time together, apart from the fact that they were youthful and engaged in immature behaviour.
He further explained that their differing personalities were the reason for their separation. Growing up in diverse environments, Bebe noted that he found it hard to accept the character of the Firebase head, and the feeling was mutual. Consequently, they chose to go their own ways.
