
The late Garuga
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I One of the top financiers of Forum For Democratic Change, who was also a prominent businessman, hotelier, and philanthropist Garuga Musinguzi has died at Nakasero Hospital.
One of the early investors who championed local ownership in the tourism industry, Garuga was reportedly one of the top financiers of the then-leading opposition party under the leadership of Rtd. Col. Dr Kizza Besigye.
He is also remembered for financing the acquisition of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party headquarters in Najjanakumbi, in Kampala.
A close family friend told Habari Daily that the late Garuga was taken down by a prolonged illness, that is suspected to be cancer.
Early life
Born in Kanungu District, Musinguzi is known to have been introduced in business at an early age.
He rose from grass to grace, to become a key figure in Uganda’s private sector. He at one time contested for the Kinkizi West Parliamentary seat and lost.

He was the founder and chairman of Garuga Resorts Beach Hotel on the shores of Lake Victoria and Kyenjonjo-based Safari Lodge
He also had interests in ranching, coffee farming, and transport, and was one of the early investors who championed local ownership in the tourism industry.
Musinguzi is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are underway, and the family is expected to release an official statement.
