HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine has revealed how he paid a courtesy visit to different prisons where NUP political prisoners are being locked up.
He went to Luzira and Masaka Prisons to check on prisoners who he said are being held by the regime for no tangible offense.
He was accompanied by his family and some leaders of the party.
“My family and I, as well as fellow leaders, comrades and lawyers from NUP visited Luzira and Masaka Prisons today to check on political prisoners,” he said.
Bobi, ho visibly grieved during the visits, noted that they checked on 35 NUP comrades that were abducted from within the country. “We also checked on the former presidential candidate, Dr Kiiza Besigye and Hajj Obeid Kamulegeya. After this, we checked on Eddie Mutwe and his group who are being held at Masaka Prison,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
He said they checked on about 35 NUP comrades, whom he said were still in high spirits despited of th persecution.
“Although some of my supporters were released, many have remained behind bars. With the 2026 general elections already in motion, there’s no doubt that more youths especially those supporting Bobi Wine and NUP might find themselves behind bars once again.”
