Bobi Wine’s home besieged by security
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Security has revealed that they know where opposition leader, Bobi Wine is hiding, but were advised against arresting him. Reports say that security agencies have reportedly identified the location of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, but were advised against arresting him, according to political commentators, as debate intensifies over his whereabouts since the January 2026 elections.
The high ranking officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity told Habari Daily that they were able to establish where Bobi Wine is.
“But we needed express permission from the president to go and apprehend him. But the President was against that move, and ordered us to stay put,” he said.
Government officials have offered differing explanations about the Bibi Wine’s where about, some saying that he must have flown out of the country.
The development comes amid fresh claims by Kyagulanyi that several police officers previously assigned to his protection have been dismissed and detained for allegedly assisting him to evade security forces.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, the opposition leader accused the government of punishing officers who had been attached to his campaign security detail during the election period.
Political persecution
“The criminal regime yesterday paraded before the Police Court, nine of the police officers who were assigned to our campaign. They were all dismissed from the Uganda Police Force with disgrace. Their crime? ‘Neglect of Duty’. The criminal regime claims that they assisted me in escaping from my own home. Crazy!” Kyagulanyi wrote.
Kyagulanyi maintained that the officers had already been withdrawn from his residence on January 15, the day Ugandans went to the polls, meaning they were not present when security forces later surrounded his home.
“And yet, in fact, these professional police officers were withdrawn on 15th January, which was election day. By the time I left my home on the 16th when the military raided, they were no longer on duty,” he said.
He added that the officers were being punished because authorities had failed to account for his disappearance in the weeks following the election.
“But now they’re being hounded, persecuted and punished because the regime cannot live with the embarrassment of not being able to locate me for two months,” he wrote.
According to Kyagulanyi, two of the dismissed officers, including one identified as Kigenyi, were later returned to detention at the Railway Police Station where they remain under interrogation.
Kyagulanyi has remained largely out of public view since January 16 when security forces reportedly surrounded his residence shortly after the election. On February 23, the opposition leader also delivered a virtual address to lawmakers at the European Parliament in Brussels, raising further questions about his whereabouts.

Meanwhile, officials from the National Unity Platform (NUP) have maintained that Kyagulanyi remains in Uganda and is in good health, although they have declined to disclose his location.
