
Hundreds celebrating the annual St. Gonzaga Gonza Bato in Kaliro District
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Bugonza, the birthplace of St. Gonzaga Gonza, as well as Kyebando, where St. Matia Mulumba was born, should be developed into major tourism sites, according to President Yoweri Museveni.
He made the remarks while addressing the national celebrations of St. Gonzaga Gonza Day at Bugonza Shrine. He served as the Chief Pilgrim and noted that government support has for long been directed toward Martyrs Day commemorations.
“The focus will now expand to developing significant birth sites. Developing these sites will be done. They capture the sentiment of our people,” said Museveni.
In a bid to support the Catholic Church and its mission, the President pledged Shs 950 million to complete Iganga Minor Seminary, Shs 300 million to the Jinja Diocese priests’ SACCO, and Shs300 million to complete the commercial building in Kamuli.
He also pledged full government support to finish Uganda Martyrs Hospital Jinja, donated a tractor for agricultural projects in Jinja Diocese and continued medical support for Bishop Charles Martin Wamika.
The First Deputy Prime Minister Rebecca Kadaga advocated for the recognition and development of all martyrdom sites across Uganda.
