Buzeki Vows to Crush the Fraudsters at KCCA as She Takes Office

HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I  Numbered are the days of the fraudsters holed up at the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), as new leadership, led by Hajati Sharifah Buzeki, comes into office.

The newly appointed Executive Director, Buzeki vowed to uproot corruption within the Authority by minimising the interaction between KCCA staff and the public.

“We will ensure that we utilise all the digital platforms. This will go a long way towards combating corruption,” she vowed as she took office today.

She comes in as a successor to Frank Rusa, who had been serving as acting Executive Director following the dismissal of Dorothy Kisaka and two of her contemporaries in September last year.

Sworn in alongside her deputy, Benon Moses Kigenyi, the new ED emphasized the importance of unity among KCCA’s political and technical teams.

“As we face the ongoing challenge of solid waste management in the city, we need to stay united. We need to find a lasting solution to this problem by embracing modern technology,” she said.

Buzeki also pledged to leverage Kampala’s potential to improve the city.

“Kampala city has a lot of potential that we need to harness. We will ensure that the citizens of Kampala live in a clean and sustainable environment,” she noted.

She promised to fast-track the acquisition of land for a state-of-the-art waste processing facility, adding that this would be crucial in managing the increasing waste generated within the city.

Erias Lukwago, Kampala Lord Mayor took time off to caution the incoming ED about the hazards hanging around her job.

“There are numerous overlapping power centres within this institution, which creates confusion and hinder effective governance. KCCA is a dysfunctional institution,” he said.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Frank Rusa, the outgoing Acting ED highlighted the financial constraints faced by KCCA.

“Almost 80% of the city’s budget is dependent on central government funding,” he said.

Buzeki becomes KCCA’s third ED since the enactment of the KCCA Act in 2010. She also becomes the third woman ED after Jennifer Musisi and Dorothy Kisaka.
