Death Toll Rises In UAE Over Iranian Missile Attacks, As Ugandans Are Confirmed Among Injured

HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The death toll from Iranian missile attacks on the United Arab Emirates has risen, with Ugandans among the 141 people injured after air defence systems intercepted several missiles and drones launched from Iran.
According to a statement issued on March 14, 2026, by the UAE Ministry of Defence, the country’s air defence systems successfully engaged nine ballistic missiles and 33 unmanned aerial vehicles targeting the Gulf state.
“UAE air defence systems on 14th March engaged nine ballistic missiles and 33 UAVs launched from Iran,” the ministry said in the statement, adding that the interceptions formed part of ongoing defensive operations since what it described as “the onset of the blatant Iranian aggression.”
Authorities confirmed that the attacks have so far claimed six lives, including nationals from the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh.
A total of 141 people sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate, with victims drawn from several countries. Among those injured were citizens of the UAE, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, the Philippines, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Uganda, Eritrea, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Bahrain, Comoros, Türkiye, Iraq, Nepal, Nigeria, Oman, Jordan, Palestine, Ghana, Indonesia and Sweden.
Officials did not disclose how many Ugandan nationals were affected but confirmed that some were among those receiving treatment following the attacks.
The defence ministry also revealed that the missile and drone attacks have been extensive since the escalation of hostilities between the two countries.
According to official figures, the UAE’s defence systems have so far intercepted 294 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles and about 1,600 drones launched from Iran since the confrontation began.
Despite the ongoing attacks, the UAE said its security forces remain on high alert and prepared to respond to further threats.
“The Ministry of Defence affirmed that it remains fully prepared and ready to deal with any threats, and will firmly confront any attempts to undermine State security in a manner that ensures the protection of its sovereignty, security and stability, and safeguards its national interests and capabilities,” the statement said.
The UAE has in recent years strengthened its air defence systems as part of broader efforts to protect strategic infrastructure and civilian populations from missile and drone attacks, particularly amid rising tensions in the region.
