Eddie Mutwe is the principle suspect
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Legal pundits have weighed in on the possibility that National Unity Platform (NUP) who have been aligned in the Masaka High Court would soon gain their freedom through bail.
Edward Rogers Ssebuufu, popularly known as Eddie Mutwe, and fellow party activists Achileo Kivumbi, Gaddafi Mugumya, and Smart Wakabi, were visibly shaken and in need of urgent medical attention, according to eye witnesses.
“We are going to apply to the High Court under the Human Rights Enforcement Act to have all charges against him (Eddie Mutwe) nullified, due to the torture he suffered and the grave violations of his constitutional rights by the state,” NUP lawyer George Musisi.
He was non-committal of the possibility that the suspects could be afforded bail.

“We will try our luck, but the system doesn’t seem to favor us,” he said without elaborating.
Tension was high at the Masaka court as the suspects appeared before the Magistrate to answer to charges of aggravated robbery, with prosecution alleging that on April 24, 2025, in Masaka District, they violently robbed a civilian of cash and a mobile phone during a post-burial procession, using force and threatening violence.
According to the charge sheet other charges stem from events that followed the burial of former Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya.
Their legal team — led by human rights lawyers Samuel Muyizzi Mulindwa, Benjamin Katana, and George Musisi, challenged the basis of the charges and petitioned the court for bail, albeit unsuccessfully.
The state claims the accused acted with common intent and in a manner meant to incite chaos and public disorder.
