Kenzo (R) during a press conference
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The president of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), Eddy Kenzo, has issued a stern warning to creatives who intend to exploit Federation funds for personal gain, saying their days are numbered.
Addressing a gathering of musicians, Kenzo said there are individuals within UNMF circles who feel overly entitled and believe they have absolute control over financial decisions. He warned that such tendencies will not be tolerated under his leadership.
Kenzo stressed that he is not intimidated by anyone, noting that his mandate comes directly from musicians and entertainers who elected him. He said his responsibility is to serve their interests and protect the integrity of the Federation.
The UNMF president reiterated that one of his key objectives is to see the copyright law fully passed and implemented, arguing that it will secure musicians’ long-term earnings. He explained that this goal is part of the reason he actively supported President Museveni’s re-election, saying the President has the authority and capacity to support the creative industry.
Kenzo revealed that the government has already provided the music sector with Shs10 billion and is working toward releasing more funding. He added that many musicians are ageing and will eventually be unable to perform, making it crucial to protect and monetize their work while they are still active.
He concluded by warning that anyone who attempts to steal or misuse money meant for the Federation will be dealt with decisively.
