The Electoral Commission Voting Station layout
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The Electoral Commission has released detailed instructions for voters ahead of the 2026 elections, aiming to ensure a smooth and transparent polling process.
As part of the instructions, all registered voters are expected to go to the polling station where they are registered and present either a National ID or a Voter Location Slip.
“The presiding officer can assist voters who do not have these documents by checking their details on the National Voters Register,” the Commission said in a statement.
Voter verification will be conducted using Biometric Voter Verification Machines, which confirm identities through fingerprints or facial recognition. Verified voters will then receive ballot papers for all elective positions.
Voters are expected to mark their preferred candidates in the voting booths using a tick or thumbprint, fold the ballot, and drop it into the appropriate ballot box. After voting, a polling assistant will mark the voter’s finger to indicate that the person has already cast their vote.
The Electoral Commission further pointed out that polling stations will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m.
“We encourage all Ugandans to arrive early and participate in choosing their leaders,” said the EC.
The guidelines were issued as part of the Commission’s efforts to guarantee a free, fair, and transparent election across the country.
