The Mutaaga’s
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Fresh details have emerged regarding the shocking murder of an elderly couple in Entebbe. Investigators have now linked the gruesome crime to a suspected property wrangle.
David Mutaaga, 69, and his wife Deborah Florence Mutaaga, 62, were found brutally murdered at their home on Research Road in Lugonjo-Nakiwogo Cell, Entebbe Division B, on the night of July 6, 2025.
This couple had recently returned from Germany, where they had reportedly lived for close to 30 years. Their intention was to spend their retirement in Uganda.
Local authorities were alerted by the couple’s shamba boy, Ronald Golooba, who reported a suspected robbery at around 9:30 PM. The Police responded quickly and discovered the couple’s lifeless bodies inside their residence. Initial reports indicated signs of a violent struggle, with the female victim found partially undressed.
Although early rumors pointed to an aggravated robbery, new leads suggest the murders may have stemmed from a long-simmering property dispute involving extended family members.
Sources close to the investigation now believe the attack could have been planned and executed by individuals familiar with the home and its occupants.
As of now, two domestic workers, Angel Nakalema and Ronald Golooba, are currently in police custody and are being questioned. Another housemaid, Daphne Naudo, has also recorded a statement, along with several neighbours. Police have not confirmed any charges but say investigations are ongoing.
“This is a disturbing and deeply puzzling case,” said Zikuliza Paul, LC1 chairperson of Lugonjo-Nakiwogo.
“The Mutaagas were known to be peaceful, private people. This tragedy has shaken our entire community,” he noted.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed that evidence was collected from the crime scene and that detectives are now exploring multiple motives, including property inheritance disputes. This, he pointed out, was unfinished business that was supposed to be ironed out through dialogue.
The couple’s murder adds to the growing list of unresolved high-profile killings in the country. Police are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward, as investigators continue to piece together the final hours of the Mutaagas’ lives.
Last party
This murder reportedly happened after the couple had organized a small party to celebrate their return. Theories are pointing to an inside job from some of the attendants as Police reports revealed that there was no forced entry into the premises.
