HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) has suggested the immediate removal of street preachers, claiming tey cause public disorder.
The son to President Yoweri Museveni, posted his opinion on his handle on X, where he frequently sparks controversy.
This attack has since generated mixed reactions from the public, the majority of whom expressed their support for the street preachers.
“This thought infringes on individuals’ freedom of worship. The preachers are not the only ones who create noise. This noise usually come from bars, disco’s, mosques, and musicians, among others,” said Samuel Kasibante, a resident of Kampala
He said that whereas they might be inconveniencing some people, we should not forget Uganda is a Christian Nation and everyone has freedom to worship.
“Dear Gen @mkainerugaba, let’s spare these preachers for the sake of our master Jesus. If noise is the issue, then authorities should deal with bars, traders of all kinds of things, which include churches, mosques, politicians, musicians, among others,” he said.
The issue of street preaching has elicited varied opinions across all major towns, particularly in Kampala, where numerous young men and women, sometimes in groups, engage in preaching.
