HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Ben Kumumanya, has urged Local Government Communication Officers to take a more proactive role in informing the public about government programmes and interventions, saying effective communication is key to better service delivery, transparency and accountability.
Kumumanya made the remarks while addressing a meeting of Local Government Communication Officers, where he highlighted the strategic importance of timely and accurate communication in helping citizens understand government policies, programmes and development initiatives implemented at the local level.
During the same meeting, the Permanent Secretary presided over the handover of laptops to the communication officers, noting that the equipment will improve their efficiency and enhance the quality and speed of information dissemination.
He explained that the laptops were delivered in fulfillment of a pledge made during last year’s meeting of Communication Officers, reaffirming the government’s commitment to equipping its staff with the tools needed to effectively carry out their duties.
Kumumanya encouraged the officers to use the equipment responsibly and creatively to strengthen public engagement and promote a positive image of government service delivery across the country.
The official emphasised the importance of widely publicising local government job advertisements, saying this would help attract qualified applicants, address unfilled positions and contribute to tackling unemployment.
