Hoima Farmer Breaks Barriers in Agri Business, to Earn Shs1 billion

David Irumba, an established model farmer in Bunyoro Sub-Region boasts of 45,000 layers and model farm

 

HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I   With a poultry stock of 50,000 birds producing 500 trays of eggs daily—earning him Shs150 million per month, David Irumba is not an average farmer.

Having began his journey in 2018 with three acres of coffee, he has since expanded into poultry and goat farming, employing 50 workers and making significant financial strides.

Speaking during a visit to his farm by President Yoweri Museveni recently, Irumba said, he said his income is projected to hit Shs 1 billion annually within a period of five months.

“My coffee enterprise also generates an average of Shs1.6 million per month. We are also adopting new technology to help boost output,” said Irumba, who is based in Bulera East Cell, Kyentale Ward, Hoima East Division, Hoima City.

He requested additional support, including an egg-breaking machine, a complete feed mixer, and a delivery truck for egg distribution.

President Museveni commended the farmer’s dedication to wealth creation, attributing his success to the government’s message of economic empowerment.

He contributed a feed mixer worth Shs80 million and an egg-breaking machine worth Shs120 million as well as a truck to transport eggs to the market.

He also assured him that the Ministry of Agriculture would address the farm’s water needs to facilitate poultry farming and zero-grazing for cattle.

Robinah Nabbanja, Uganda’s Prime Minister pledged government’s commitment to infrastructure development, including improved road networks and the ongoing construction of Hoima International Airport, as catalysts for economic take off of the country.
