
Hoima National stadium is nearing completion
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The iconic Hoima National stadium is set to be unveiled at the end of the year after it hit an iconic 60% completion stage.
According to Murat Altun, the project manager at Summa construction company, the project which started in September 2024 is progressing well as planned, and is expected to be complete by December this year.
“Currently, the roofing is standing at 70% and installing of the chairs is at 70%. Electricity wiring is also going on, as we work on the football pitch, where the ground revealing has been completed and preparation for grass planting and developing the VIP and VVIP section progressing,” he said.
He made the remarks while addressing Hoima city leaders who included the Hoima west and Hoima east division councilors and the LC1 and 2 chairpersons on Monday.
Altun noted that the entire project is at 60% while stadium infrastructure is at 70% progress.
“Currently, we are about to start working on the basement parking facility,” he said, further revealing that the project is employing approximately 1000 local workers and 300 Turkish expatriates operating in shifts to ensure that they complete the project on time.
Altun further noted that the 20000-seater stadium worth $129 million, (470 billion) will also have a 2000 door arena, training facilities, swimming pool and outdoor courts for netball, volleyball among other facilities.
Hoima city stadium is one of the several venues being constructed or renovated across Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya in preparation for AFCON 2027.
In July 2024 the government contracted Summa construction company, a Turkish farm, to build the stadium situated on 34.9 acres of land in Kyarwiru cell, Kicwamba ward, Hoima east city division, Hoima city.
Moses Muyambi, the Hoima East division deputy RCC who led the delegation of local leaders expressed their delight concerning the progress of the project.
He challenged leaders to mobilise the community to engage in productivity as one of preparing to benefit from the development.
“The locals should be positioned to supply goods and services needed after the unveiling of the stadium. This is a major development in the area which should benefit everyone,” he said.
