HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Suicide is suspected to be the cause of Tommy Lee Jones’ daughter’s death, after Victoria Kafka Jones was found dead in a luxury hotel room in San Francisco on New Year’s Day, authorities and sources familiar with the case have said.
Victoria, 34, the daughter of the Oscar-winning Hollywood actor, was discovered unresponsive in an upscale hotel in the early hours of Thursday, January 1. Emergency services were alerted after hotel staff raised concern over her condition.
According to eyewitness accounts, the San Francisco Fire Department responded to a medical emergency at the Fairmont San Francisco at about 2:52am. A police officer with knowledge of the incident said a woman believed to be in her mid-30s was found inside a hotel room and immediate efforts were made to revive her.
“A white female around her mid-30s was found unresponsive and hotel staff alerted emergency services. CPR was performed, but she was pronounced dead by the emergency and ambulance crew that responded,” the source said.
Officials later confirmed that the deceased was Victoria Kafka Jones. Once she was pronounced dead at the scene, the matter was handed over to the San Francisco Police Department for further investigation.
In a statement, police said officers responded to a report of a deceased person at the hotel at around 3:14am. “At the scene, officers met with medics, who declared the adult female deceased. The Medical Examiner arrived on scene and conducted an investigation,” the statement read.
While police have not publicly disclosed the official cause of death, a source close to the investigation said there were indications that suicide is suspected. The Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to release more details after completing post-mortem examinations.
Victoria was born on September 3, 1991, to Tommy Lee Jones and his second wife, Kimberlea Cloughley, who were married between 1981 and 1996. The former couple also share a son, Austin, now 42.
Though largely private, Victoria briefly appeared in the public eye in 2002, when she made a small on-screen appearance in her father’s film Men in Black II. Tommy Lee Jones, known for acclaimed roles in films such as The Fugitive and No Country for Old Men, has not yet issued a public statement as tributes and messages of condolence continue to emerge.
