When Habari Daily consulted medical practitioners on what it means for someone to be brain dead, they said it is as good as one being physically dead.

Brain death, also known as brain stem death, is a legal definition of death that occurs when a person’s brain has completely stopped functioning and they are no longer able to breathe or regain consciousness without artificial life support.

“Brain death is irreversible and there is no chance of recovery,” said a Kampala-based doctor on condition of anonymity.

Brain death can occur after a severe brain injury or trauma that blocks the brain’s blood supply. It’s often confused with other conditions, such as coma and vegetative state.

Many pundits however are of the view that although Ssegirinya might be clinically dead. he is still politically alive.

Joel Ssenyonyi, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament said he had earlier on received a call from the legislator’s mother that he had passed on.

“His situation had become dire. He was a very practical leader. He would go to the ground and connect with people. He was more of a community leader,” he said.

Although the country is eurogising the legislator and referring to him as late, we will wait for an official communication from the doctors who are manning him. Habari Daily will keep you updated about the proceedings.
