HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The United States of America has been hit by tens of missiles in a move that has scratched its ego the wrong way, and shook its military infrastructure in the Middle East. It has to take this wave of attacks for the US to admit that it confronted Middle East’s strong man when it attacked Iran’s nuclear sites over the weekend.
As of 2024, the United States has approximately 45,000 troops in the region, including approximately 2,500 troops stationed in Iraq, 900 troops stationed in Syria, and others stationed in Bahrain, Djibouti, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
Explosions were heard in the skies over Doha, the capital of Qatar. The Al-Udeid Air Base, whose 10,000 or so service members make it the largest American military installation in the Middle East, is located near Doha.
According to Iranian officials, the attack came in retaliation for U.S. B-2 bombers and cruise missiles that struck nuclear development facilities in Iran on Saturday.
Qatar’s Defense Ministry officials, who said it was a “powerful and destructive missile strike on the United States’ Al-Udeid military base in Qatar,” added that its air defense had successfully intercepted the missile attack on Al-Udeid, and that there were no reported deaths or injuries.
Situation Room exchanges
President Donald Trump, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine, and other officials were in the White House’s Situation Room monitoring developments in the Middle East.
Depending on their decision, the US may let Israel take the war against Iran forward or launch a much more devastating attack on Tehran.
Officials close to the Trump administration have revealed that following the strikes on the nuclear sites, the US was braced for an imminent attack from Iran on sites in Iraq and Bahrain.
Qatar might retaliate
Said Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman: “We express the State of Qatar’s strong condemnation of the attack on Al Udeid Air Base by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. We consider it a flagrant violation of the State of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace, as well as of international law and the United Nations Charter.”
He affirmed that the State of Qatar reserves the right to respond directly in a manner proportional to the nature and scale of this blatant aggression and in accordance with international law.
