HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), in collaboration with the Government of Uganda, will host “the Uganda Business Idea Contest: Innovative Solutions for Refugees and Host Communities.”
The event, set to be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at MOTIV Creations Limited, in Kampala, aims to promote self-reliance and peaceful coexistence of refugees and host community members through business creation that addresses shared social and economic challenges.
According to a recently issued press statement, out of more than 50 applications, four finalists—two from refugee communities and two from host communities—have been selected to pitch their business ideas to a panel of experts.
“The winners will receive business implementation support for Proof of Concept (PoC) worth approximately Shs 12 million as well as mentoring, business development, and networking opportunities,” reads part of the statement, issued by the organizing team: Deloitte Touche Tohmastu.
The statement adds that a video presentation of the winning business ideas will also be shown at the Business Idea Contest at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan.
“The expo, which is scheduled for August 3, 2025, will offer participating entrepreneurs with an opportunity to showcase their ideas to international audiences and connect with potential partners and investors,” further reads the statement.
The event is also aimed at promoting self-reliance, peaceful coexistence, and sustainable community development in refugee-affected areas.
“The contest will highlight innovative business ideas that support both refugees and host communities, focusing on sustainable practices.”
