The suspect is floored
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Police at Wandegeya are holding two men in connection with the murder of a 34-year-old man in Kalerwe.
The deceased, identified as Kabugo, was found dead near the fence of Dusuma Garage on Tuesday morning.
According to Uganda Police Force, officers received information at around 8:00am about a body lying near the garage fence. A team was immediately dispatched to the scene, including a canine unit.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson said the sniffer dog, identified as Pepper, was introduced to the scene to assist with tracking.
“The dog picked up a scent from the body and started tracking. It first moved for about 10 metres and entered the house of the garage askari,” the spokesperson said.
Pepper later moved out of the house and continued tracking around the garage premises before returning inside.
“Eventually, the dog led officers to a particular spot within the garage where the askari and other workers normally sit. At that point, it lay down, which is a clear indication that it had detected crucial evidence,” police explained.
At the spot indicated by the dog, officers recovered a metal bar with visible blood stains. Police believe the object may have been used in the attack.
A further search in the askari’s house led to the recovery of spears and arrows.
Two suspects, identified as Ssebuya and Johnson, were arrested and are currently detained at Wandegeya Police Division.
Police say investigations into the circumstances surrounding Kabugo’s death are ongoing.
