Kenyan MP Killed In Cold Blood Was Stalked, Says Police

The late Ong’ondo has been described as a “gallant son of the soil.”

 

HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I   Charles Ong’ondo Were, who was killed in cold blood in Nairobi was a victim of political intrigue, Habari Daily can divulge.

The late MP served as a legislator representing Kasipul, in western Kenya, under the banner of the centre-left Orange Democratic Movement.

According to police, those who killed the legislator had stalked him for some time, and were conversant with his movements.

A forensic official inspected the inside of a car in which Ong’ondo disclosed that it seems the victim was targeted for political reasons.

“The victim was shot dead on Wednesday evening after his vehicle stopped at a traffic light on Ngong Road in Nairobi. The assailant, who shot at close range seem to even know the sitting arrangement of the victim. This was pre meditated murder,” said thee officer on request of anonymity.

He further disclosed that bystanders witnessed the passenger of a motorcycle open fire on the MP’s car as it stopped at the junction.

The law maker, who was shot dead at around 7:30pm local time, was apprehended by two gunmen who trailed him on a motor cycle. One of the gunmen reportedly got of the bike and shot Ong’ondo at close range. He was pronounced dead at the hospital where he was rushed for urgent medical attention.

Media reports indicated that Ong’ondo had openly complained his life was in danger, but no move was made to boost his security.

Kenyan President William Ruto, on his X handle, passed on his condolences to Ong’ondo’s family and the people of Kasipul.

He called on the Police force to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident, adding that those responsible must be held to account.
