HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I In a momentous celebration that captivated the hearts of Busoga Kingdom and beyond, King William Wilberforce Nadiope Kadhumbula Gabula IV, affectionately known as Kyabazinga, exchanged vows of eternal commitment with his beloved Queen Jovia Mutesi today at Christ Cathedral in Jinja City.
The sacred ceremony, witnessed by an array of dignitaries and graced by the presence of Archbishop Stephen Kiziimba Mugalu, was a culmination of weeks of anticipation and meticulous preparations. Following the solemnization of their union, the royal couple hosted approximately 2000 distinguished guests at their Palace in Bugembe, where the festivities continued in grandeur.
Preparations for the main celebration at the palace reached a fever pitch on Friday evening. A massive marquee, expertly decorated, awaited the arrival of the jubilant crowd. Across the 11 counties of Busoga Kingdom, venues were set up for the subjects to partake in the live broadcast of the wedding service and reception. Abundant food and drinks were promised to accompany the joyous occasion.
The streets of Jinja City and various townships in Busoga reverberated with the rhythm of drums as jubilant subjects danced and paraded in celebration. The excitement and enthusiasm were palpable, setting the stage for a wedding that will undoubtedly be etched in the annals of Busoga’s rich history.
To ensure a peaceful and responsible celebration, Katukiro Joseph Muvawala, the Prime Minister of Busoga, urged the public to exercise restraint. At a press conference attended by security commanders from the region, Muvawala disclosed that the wedding ceremony at the cathedral commenced promptly at 11:00 am and concluded at 1:00 pm.
Jamal Basalirwa, head of the Police Protocol Unit, reassured the public that no traffic diversions would be implemented on the highway. However, he sternly warned against uninvited individuals attempting to access the main wedding venue in Bugembe.
The elaborate security measures included the use of invitation cards equipped with scanning chips, revealing the identity of guests and their assigned seats. This precautionary step aimed to ensure a smooth and secure event.
As the wedding unfolded, distinguished figures from diverse cultural backgrounds graced the occasion. Notable personalities such as Queen Sylvia Naginda of Buganda, Queen Best Kemigisa Akiiki of Tooro, and political figures including Rebecca Kadaga and Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, added to the regality of the event. Representing President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Vice President Jessica Alupo lent her presence to the momentous celebration.
Following the ceremony, the newlyweds hosted their reception at the Igenge Palace, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the history of Busoga Kingdom.
