Bobi Wine and Wife Babbie exchange notes after his nomination recently
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The Woman MP for Kampala Shamim Malende, has returned to the political stage with a strong message- she’s no longer in the league with those fighting for a party tickets.
“My record speaks for me,” she announced upon returning home following a protracted fight against illness. She has been receiving medical care in Kenya.
She was welcomed by supporters who have stood by her through thick and thin. With the 2026 general elections approaching, Malende is gearing up for re-election. However, her political journey this time may not be as smooth.
There are whispers from political corners, particularly in Makerere Kavule, suggesting that Malende may not secure the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket to run for the post of Kampala Woman MP.
Instead, the party seems to be favoring Zaharah Luyirika, a KCCA councillor whose star continues to rise within party circles.
However, in a recent media interview, Malende dismissed the idea of scrambling for a ticket.
“I’m no longer in the position of wondering if I need a ticket or not,” she confidently said. “My track record speaks for itself because I’ve always been committed to serving people, even before I entered politics.”
Despite facing serious health challenges, Malende insists that her service delivery and loyalty to the people never wavered. She believes some voters may choose to support her out of sympathy, but she’s also certain that others see her worth through her consistent work ethic and principles.
“I believe I am the right candidate. I have always respected my president Bobi Wine, and that’s one of my greatest achievements,” she added. “If I were in someone else’s shoes, I wouldn’t run against myself. There are leaders whose legacy and contribution should be honored—not challenged.”
Malende additionally shared that her spiritual values are intertwined with her political journey. She said that her respect and loyalty to Bobi Wine and the people will be part of her answer when asked by God about her deeds on Earth.
