HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I As they celebrates 125 years of existence, Lubaga Hospital has launched a fundraising drive to purchase a new computed tomography (CT) scan machine valued at sh2.2 billion.

Dr Julius Luyimbaazi, the hospital’s executive director, said they have launched a fundraising drive to replace the current Siemens Emotion 6-Slice CT-Scan, an 8-year old machine procured in 2016.

He said they are planning to use the raised funds to purchase a 64-Slice CT Scan that can produce clearer scans.

Dr Luyimbaazi, who is also one of the best Urologists in the country noted that the current scanner is out of date and doesn’t meet the requirements of modern day medical practice.

He said the sh2.2b will cover the cost of a new machine, software to operate it and additional software to store over 50 years of patient’s records.

“That will be in keeping with modern medical practice,” he said at a press conference held at the hospital on October 3rd 2024.

Many Ugandans who are in need of high quality scans are referred to either private hospitals or foreign medical outfits.

This will be a thing of the past if Lubaga’s campaign is successful.

“Our intention is to save as many lives as possible. We are incapacitated in the current state and we need financial intervention of well-wishers, if we are to procure a scan that can work at full operational capacity.”

Dr. Luyimbazi further pointed out that the number of patients that are referred for imaging tests has increased with about 140 people scanned per month.

FUNDRAISING DINNER
