HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Notable Ugandan manufacturers have received accolades for creating jobs for the locals, paying taxes and producing essential commodities, removing the country from the list of sole importers.
While representing President Yoweri Museveni at the launch of the 31st Uganda International Trade Fair (UITF), which is being held at the UMA Show Grounds in Kampala, Matia Kasaija, the finance minister was all praises for the local manufacturers.
The show, which kicked off on October 2nd is due to end this Sunday, October 12th.
The minister went on to award the best exhibitors, with Harris International emerging as the best.
They were followed by Movit Products as runners up. National Water and Sewerage Corporation, won the trophy of the best service provider. Mandela Group, producers of Supreme Flour emerged as winners in the category of Fast Moving Consumer Goods.
China, North Machinery won the trophy in the category of Agriculture, and Industrial Equipment, while East African Packaging Solutions won in the category of packaging providers.
In the category of Cosmetics and Petrochemical Products, Movit emerged as winners, while Tooke won in the category of Innovative Exhibitor. Kawumu Leather also emerged as the most innovative exhibitor.
In the category of Electrical Engineering and Electronics, STEMMA Transformers emerged winners, Aunt Porridge also won in the category of small scale producers.
Korea won in the category of country pavilion, as the best foreign exhibitor.
Jobs created
Robert Kitenda, Movit Products Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, hailed the Uganda Government for creating a conducive economic environment, adding thtt they have been able to create 10,000 jobs both locally and across Africa.
He added that through innovations, they have become consumers of many raw materials, a move that has boosted many local suppliers.
Rogers Ssozi, Marketing Manager at Honda by Mark, the official distributor of Honda products in Uganda, said the company is proud to play a role in advancing agricultural modernization and job creation through innovation and mobility solutions.
He said that their focus is to align their objectives with the government’s vision of modernizing agriculture and creating jobs for Ugandans.
