HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I The Member of Parliament for Nyendo-Mukungwe, Mathias Mpuuga, was elected as the president of the newly established Democratic Front during a consensus agreement at the party delegates conference held in Masaka City last night.
Over 800 delegates from various regions of the country reportedly gathered for this event.
The Democratic Front also appointed Dr. Abed Bwanika, as the party’s Treasurer, Michael Mabikke, as Secretary of the Democratic Front. Dr. Abed Bwanika was also confirmed as the party’s Treasurer.
Upon taking his oath of office, Mpuuga highlighted the significance of unity within the rebranded party. He stated that this party will focus on reform, particularly around constitutional and electoral changes.
He also criticized politicians who maintain a stance of ignorance and resist correction, a statement interpreted as directed at Bobi Wine.
Juliet Kakande, the woman MP for Masaka and a member of this party, said that the DF was established not out of discontent with NUP, from which they were affiliated, but to effect genuine change.
It’s not clear, however, whether the party will field a presidential candidate in the forthcoming general elections.
