HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Godfrey Aine Kaguta, commonly known as Sodo, the younger brother of President Museveni, has been officially selected by the NRM to compete in the party primary elections for Mawogola County North in Sembabule District.
After his nomination, Sodo expressed his strong disappointment towards Shartsi Mushererure Kuteesa, the daughter of former Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kutesa, for allegedly breaching a 2021 agreement made at State House.
He asserts that in a family meeting held at State House Entebbe prior to the 2021 general elections, which included significant figures such as President Museveni, Gen Salim Saleh, Lt-Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and others, Shartsi had committed to not running again in 2026, thereby allowing him to step forward, but she has now breached that agreement.

“I spoke with President Museveni, and he was in agreement. Now, he is aware that I will be running for Mawogola North. I am confident that what happened in 2021 when Sam Kuteesa was upset will not happen this time,” Sodo commented.
Both Shartsi Kuteesa and Godfrey Aine hail from powerful families, setting ground for controversies.
Ismail Wagaba, independent candidate for the Mawogola North parliamentary seat, says the internal party disputes have charged the electorates in the area. He says the voters are less willing to give audience to candidates from other shades of opinion despite the fact that they are not part of the dispute.
