Nandala Mafabi (R) was recently given the FDC flag to run for the Presidency in 2026
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential hopeful Nathan Nandala Mafabi has urged Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda to aim higher and contest for Uganda’s top seat.
Speaking on Wednesday as he headed for his nomination at the Electoral Commission headquarters, Mafabi said the two opposition figures have the ability to seek the presidency but continue to hold back.
“Lukwago once wanted to be president, but remains a Lord Mayor. I would be glad to see either Lukwago or Ssemujju stand for the presidency,” Mafabi said.
The Budadiri West MP, who is seeking to carry the FDC flag in the 2026 elections, also used the occasion to highlight his campaign priorities. He promised a people-centered approach focused on service delivery rather than political confrontation.
Mafabi criticized Uganda’s healthcare system, arguing that ordinary citizens are left to suffer while the wealthy and politically connected seek treatment abroad.
“People go to India for medication, but those are mostly MPs or those close to the regime. What about your brothers, sisters, and grandmothers in the village? When you vote me, we shall upgrade all hospitals across Uganda,” he stressed.
He also pledged to invest heavily in agriculture and other productive sectors to ensure Ugandans have “money in their pockets.”
Mafabi further pointed out that FDC had distinguished itself by collecting supporter signatures from across the country, not just in Kampala, and called on citizens to participate fully in the 2026 elections.
“You can only complain about rigging if you have actually voted,” he reminded Ugandans.
With nominations now concluded, Mafabi joins a crowded race where he insists his vision of equitable healthcare, job creation, and national unity will set him apart.
