Odongo, the UNEB Secretary
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda IThe Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) will on Friday, February 13, release the 2025 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) Ordinary Level results, in what marks the first major assignment for the newly inaugurated UNEB governing board.
The decision to release the results was reached following a high-level briefing with the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, at State House Nakasero on Wednesday afternoon. The meeting, which started at 2:30 p.m., served as the final administrative review of candidate performance ahead of the public announcement.
According to a senior UNEB official, the results will be officially released at 11 a.m. at State House, setting the stage for nationwide access by schools, candidates and parents.
The release comes barely days after the swearing-in of a new 13-member UNEB governing board, led by reappointed chairperson Prof. Celestino Obua. The board is tasked with overseeing national examinations at a critical time of transition, as Uganda continues to implement the competency-based curriculum at lower secondary level.
Under the new assessment framework, continuous assessment contributes 20 percent of a learner’s final grade, while end-of-cycle examinations account for 80 percent. The reforms aim to promote critical thinking, creativity and practical application of knowledge, moving away from heavy reliance on rote memorisation.
The 2025 UCE cycle registered 432,025 candidates, representing a 12.1 percent increase from the previous year. Female candidates slightly outnumbered their male counterparts, accounting for 51.5 percent of the total candidature, continuing a trend observed in recent national examinations.
Friday’s announcement will be the second major national results release this season, following the publication of the 2025 Primary Leaving Examination results earlier this month.
Once officially released, candidates will be able to access their results via SMS by sending their index numbers to 6600 on MTN and Airtel networks, as well as through their respective schools.
The performance of the newly constituted UNEB board will be closely watched as it steers the examinations body through ongoing curriculum reforms and heightened public scrutiny over examination integrity and standards.
