Nobert Mao, the Justice Minister
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Norbert Mao, Uganda’s Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, has proposed that all secondary school graduates undergo a mandatory two-year army service before advancing to university.
Speaking to reporters, Mao explained that the graduates would join the reserve forces and be available for refresher courses if the country faces any security threats.
“It should be a national policy that every Ugandan who completes secondary school serves in the army for two years before continuing to higher education. After this, they can be integrated into the reserve army and called upon during emergencies to defend the nation,” Mao said.
He noted that national defense is a shared responsibility and noted that many citizens lack awareness of Uganda’s defense matters. Mao also highlighted that modern warfare increasingly relies on technology rather than traditional combat skills or physical strength.
