Mariam Obeid Lutale
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Obed Lutale could be behind bars but his strong stance as a politician might have infiltrated his family already.
His beloved daughter Mariam Obeid Lutale, has entered the race for the position of woman MP for Kampala for the 2026-31 term.
As indicated by a campaign poster shared by this website, Mariam will compete under the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) with the campaign slogan “Freedom For All.”
Since late last year, her father, Obed Lutale, has gained prominence in Ugandan political and legal circles following his arrest alongside four-time presidential candidate, Dr. Kizza Besigye. Both have faced treason charges and have been denied bail since last year.
Lutale’s association with Besigye began in 2001, where he initially served as a logistics officer and later took on more significant roles, playing a vital part in the former FDC president’s presidential campaigns. Consequently, the allegations against Besigye also implicate Lutale.
In the meantime, his daughter hopes to capitalize on this negative publicity, as the saying goes, “no news is bad publicity” in politics.
However, she will encounter stiff competition from other candidates, including the current incumbent Hon. Shamim Malende and NUP’s presumed frontrunner for the seat, Zahara Luyirika, among others.
