Exhibits recovered during the crackdown
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Police have stepped up efforts to curb criminal activity in the Kampala Metropolitan Area, arresting more than 100 suspects during coordinated operations in Kampala and Mukono District.
In a statement released by Police, officers carried out a joint night operation on February 1, 2026, at around 11:00pm in Kigombya, Mukono Central Division. The operation targeted a known crime hotspot linked to drug abuse and street robberies.
“In a bid to dismantle criminal networks involved in drug abuse, robbery, theft and other unlawful activities, Police have continued to conduct disruptive operations aimed at combating criminality within the Kampala Metropolitan Area,” Police said.
During the raid, 11 suspects were arrested from the area, which Police described as a hideout for criminals who smoke marijuana and attack unsuspecting members of the public. The suspects were taken into custody and are awaiting prosecution.
Police also revealed that a separate operation was conducted earlier on January 30, 2026, at about 6:00pm, by officers attached to Kampala Central Police Station (CPS) working alongside local leaders.
The operation, dubbed “Fukuza Mafisadi,” covered several parts of the city including Nakasero, Entebbe Road, Nasser Road, behind Church House, Railway Grounds, Punjani, Mukwano and the Electoral Commission area.
According to Police, the operation focused on youths who loiter at identified black spots before engaging in crimes such as snatching mobile phones and handbags, and stealing vehicle parts from motorists caught in traffic.
A total of 100 suspects were arrested during the city-wide operation and are expected to appear before court today, February 2, 2026.
Police say similar operations will continue as part of ongoing efforts to improve security and protect residents and visitors within the metropolitan area.
