HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Police have arrested a 20-year-old man after a video circulated on social media showing him wearing a military jacket and making statements considered inciting.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Rachael Kawala confirmed that the suspect, identified as Musana Ivan, was apprehended following investigations into the video that was shared on TikTok.
“Security agencies have apprehended Ivan Musana, a 20-year-old male, following the circulation of a video on social media in which he is seen wearing a military jacket and making inciting statements,” Kawala said.
She added that preliminary findings show that Musana is not a member of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
“Investigations established that the suspect falsely presented himself as a UPDF officer while recording the video,” she explained.
According to police, Musana was tracked and arrested in Bukedea District. He is currently being held at Kawempe Police Station as investigations continue.
Kawala said the case file will be sent to the Office of the Resident State Attorney for legal guidance. “The case file will be forwarded for legal review and advice,” she noted.
As the country heads toward the General Elections scheduled for January 15, 2026, police have cautioned the public against misusing social media.
“We remind the public to use social media responsibly. Any content that amounts to threats, hate speech, or impersonation of security personnel is punishable under the law and may lead to prosecution,” Kawala warned.
