The suspect being shipped away in a Police Patrol vehicle
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Police has finally spoken about the brutal attack at an Early Childhood Development centre in Kabuuma that left at least four children dead.
It said that preliminary reports indicate that a middle aged man armed with a machete raided a childhood care center at Maranatha Community Church and forced his way into one of the rooms where he attacked one of the minors.
Reports say that the day care center shares a compound with a church. Rachael Kawala, the police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan confirmed that the incident happened on Thursday morning, and that investigations are ongoing.
“We have apprehended the suspect, and he is currently in our custody, as investigations continue,” she said, adding that they rescued the suspect from a mob that tried to lynch him.
The suspect, who is currently in police custody, is reported to have first killed one person in the area before proceeding to a church-run facility where he carried out the deadly assault on the children.
Local leaders and security personnel have visited the scene to ascertain the situation and offer support to affected families.
