
The Uganda police has kicked off investigations to establish the cause of death of the Commissioner of Police, Godfrey Maate, which occurred on Monday.
Maate, who was the Commander of Sango Bay Police Operations, died on Sunday, October 19, in Kyotera District.
“Investigations have kicked off in earnest to establish the cause of the untimely death of Afande Matte,” reads part a police statement dated Monday, October 20.
Police however disclosed that Maate reportedly collapsed while on duty in Sango Bay, Kyotera District.
The Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba appointed Maate as Zonal Commander for the Greater Masaka Region in July 2025, to help in policing the 2025/26 General election.
Maate was among the first police officers to be taken to Jinja Nilitary School for training.
He, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and the Assistant Inspector General of Police John Ndungutse were passed out on the same day at Jinja.
Maate once served as Kasese District Police Commander, He had previously served in several sistricts, including Kalanga and Kampala Central Police Station.
