HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I A shocking shooting at Kiboga Prison in central Uganda has claimed the lives of three people, including the spouse of the Officer in Charge, after a warder opened fire on his superiors.
According to a statement issued by Frank Baine Mayanja, the Senior Commissioner of Prisons and Spokesperson, the incident happened around 10:00 a.m. on Monday when Warder Anguyo Moses (No. 13544) shot and killed Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Hope Catherine, Principal Officer I Akishuri Bright, and Ms. Ayebare Sarah, the spouse of the Officer in Charge.
The Commissioner General of Prisons described the incident as “the unfortunate death of three persons following a shooting at Kiboga Prison.” After the attack, the suspect fled the facility and remains at large. Authorities have warned that he is considered dangerous.
Police quickly secured the scene and recovered the weapon used in the attack. It’s investigating the incident. A joint manhunt is ongoing, and the public has been urged to provide any information that could help track down the suspect. “Anyone with valuable information regarding his whereabouts is urged to inform the Police,” the prison service said.
While local media reports mentioned a child among the victims, the official statement confirms the deaths of the three named individuals. The motive behind the shooting is still unknown, and an investigation is underway.
The Uganda Prisons Service expressed deep sorrow over the loss, paying tribute to the victims: “May the souls of the deceased rest in eternal peace.”
This incident has raised serious concerns about security within Uganda’s prison facilities, as authorities work to apprehend Warder Anguyo Moses and ensure public safety.
