HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Rukungiri District Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an attack on Angello Twinomuhangi, an independent candidate for the LC V chairperson position.
Twinomuhangi was found unconscious and tied up at Minera Bridge in Nyarushanje Sub-county on the evening of January 6, 2026, around 9:00 p.m. Local residents who discovered him immediately alerted authorities. He was quickly taken to a nearby health facility for treatment. His current condition has not been officially shared.
Police say that the victim had a handkerchief covering his mouth, and his hands were tied behind his back with what is believed to be a USB cable. Officials suspect he may have been attacked at a different location before being dumped at the bridge.
The Rukungiri District Police Commander confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the assault and identify those involved. Authorities are also exploring whether the attack could be linked to the ongoing political activities ahead of the local elections.
Another police officer who is close to the case, but spoke to Habari Daily on condition of anonymity, said they suspect that the attacker had murder intentions against his victim and intended to finish him off. “We have strong leads to the culprits and trust that we will get them into custody soon,” he said.
Police are urging members of the public to provide any information that could assist with the investigation while calling for calm in the community.
