
Rachael Namubiru
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I God works in mysterious ways, and so do talents that He allots to those that He loves. She currently wears many hats. She is currently a Gospel artiste, worship leader, entrepreneur and social worker.
Rachael Namubiru has turned out as one of the singers that is bringing glory to God’s kingdom is.
Her musical journey began in her early years and matured in the pews and at the pulpits of the church, where she served as a worship leader.
In 2010, her talent took a turn for the best. She somehow hit the national radar when she emerged as one of the top performers in the East African Tusker Project Fame competition.
A year later, she took to the stage at the Feast of Tabernacles in Jerusalem, a defining moment that gave her international exposure.
Shortly after that, she reached out to Isaiah Katumwa, one of the best saxophonists on the African continent.
“Katumwa’s mentorship become a catalyst for my musical breakthrough. It catapulted my career to greater heights I had never anticipated at any one time in my life,” she intimated.
She says that Katumwa penned her now-signature song ‘Nzize’, which debuted at his concert in 2012 and became an anthem.
Namubiru says that Nzize’ got her name into people’s ears, to later become the first song people mention when they hear her name.
Her collaboration with Katumwa under the Parapanda Music EA project helped her grow vocally and professionally.
“It gave me insight into the music business and the confidence to pursue my entrepreneurial outreaches.
Namubiru mentioned a long list of people who have influenced her musical journey. One of them is Philly Bongoley Lutaaya, Nicole Mullen, Mariah Carey and her late uncle, Godi Mwambala. The later was a pillar of Afrigo Band and became a genius on Uganda’s music scene.
In a noble move, Namubiru was recently handed the mantle to bring the gospel into the Isiaiah Katumwa at 30 concert slated to take place at the Kampala Serena Hotel this week.
He task is to bring a fresh, soulful voice to the jazz show. So big, the show is expected to be a celebration that will mark three decades of Katumwa, who is arguably one of Uganda’s most celebrated jazz artists.
