
Raga Dee, the former Kampala Mayoral aspirant
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Veteran musician Daniel Kazibwe popularly known as Raga Dee has expressed his intention to sue fellow singer Michael Mukwaya aka Mikie Wine over matters of copyright infringement.
According to a letter seen by Habari Daily, Raga Dee has hired MDG Law Advocates and charged them with instituting a civil law suit against Mikie Wine.
Mikie Wine who is the younger brother of singer and politician Bobi Wine recently released a new song titled Zuena, which has gained traction on several social media platforms like TikTok and Facebook.
“This song is a copy and paste of Raga Dee’s song Oyagala Cash released 21 years ago,” said the lawyers.”
“Our Law Firm has received legal instructions from Dan Kazibwe Raga Dee to institute a civil suit against you for copyright infringement, the facts of which are well within your knowledge,” reads part of the later.
The lawyers further said that their client published and secured a copyright for his song titled: “Nkuguddemu Oyagala Cash” in 2004.
“Our Client has exclusively performed this song for twenty-one years. But you recently reproduced the same song, save for just adding “Zuena”, but the lyrics and the message is the same as our Client’s song,” further reads the letter.
“You never sought our Client’s permission before you remixed, reproduced and performed the song, and your actions violated our client’s proprietary rights under the Copyright and Neighbouring Act (Cap 222) of the Laws of Uganda.”
The former Kampala Lord Mayor aspirant is henceforth seeking compensation to a tune of Shs 300 million from Mikie Wine.
“Present this money in a week’s time lest you face the full wrath of the law.”
