Rubaga Hospital refuse to Pronounce Hon Ssegirinya as “Dead”

Hon Ssegirinya has been referred to as a fire brand

 

HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I   The country is still hoping against hope that Hon Ssegirinya Muhammed would recover from his current state, where he had been pronounced “brain dead.”

Our contact at Rubaga hospital has confirmed that all his internal organs have shut down, but there is still a small pulse, which is a sign of life.

Sr Grace Nanyondo, the Rubaga Hospital acting executive director, referred to the patient as clinically sick.

“We cannot pronounce him dead yet, because he is not. He is critically sick, and need our love and prayers at this critical time,” she said in an interview.

Ssegirinya was pronounced dead at the health facility in what many have called a mistake by her mother, who had gone forward to call several people declaring that her son was dead.

 

Prayer is key

Joel Ssenyonyi, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament has called upon Ssegirinya’s constituents and all Ugandans to pray for the legislator.

The doctors said they cannot pronounce him dead because it’s ethically wrong. “We ask Ugandans, especially his constituents in Kawempe to keep him in their prayers,” he said.

However, medical practitioners Habari Daily talked to referred to brain death as an irreversible state, with no chance of recovery.

Ssegirinya, an outspoken MP of the Opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), was a former Kawempe Lord Councillor.

Has been in and out of the hospital both within and out of the country undergoing treatment ever since his health worsened upon release from Kigo prison.

 

Prayers for Hon Ssegirinya

 

Born in 1988 in Butale, Kadugala, Masaka District, Ssegirinya often said that the origin of his sickness started at the government prison facility where he and fellow MP Allan Ssewanyana (Makindye West) were jailed for more than a year, over murder charges in connection to deadly attacks that claimed over 20 lives in the Masaka Sub Region.

In February 2023, he was released on bail after spending approximately 17 months in prison. In 2023, he traveled to the Netherlands for medical treatment at Amsterdam Universitair Medische Centra.

He recently announced his intention to seek re-election for the Kawempe North parliamentary seat in the 2026 elections, despite ongoing health challenges.
