Justice Byabakama addressing the press recently
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Electoral Commission Chairperson Simon Byabakama has advised Ugandans who will lack voter location slips or National IDs, to turn up on election day and cast their vote.
“Ugandans can vote in the 2026 elections without a National ID or voter location slip as long as their names are on the National Voters Register,” he said, adding that all they would need to do is show up and mention their name.
He made the clarification on Wednesday, January 31, 2025, while speaking to journalists at the Commission headquarters in Kampala.
Byabakama said the National ID and voter location slip are only tools to ease verification and speed up the process.
“The foundation for one to vote is to be in the National Voters Register,” Byabakama noted.
The Electoral Commission recently announced a massive 21,681,491 registered voters, a figure that instantly sparked political heat across the nation.
