
NRM supporters in Wakiso passed a vote of no confidence in the Wakiso Youth Primaries and boycotted it
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I Disturbances that marred the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primary elections across Uganda on 17 July 2025, led to the arrest of more than 90 people, according to a police statement.
The Uganda Police Force, with support from other security agencies, was deployed nationwide to ensure a peaceful voting process. While major urban centers like Kampala, Wakiso, Mbale, Mbarara, and Soroti** remained calm, several areas experienced serious disruptions:
* In Isingiro District, Tumwine Benon was arrested in Kamubeizi Town Council (Isingiro South) after being found with a hand grenade.
* In Ngoma Town Council, Nakaseke District, clashes between supporters of Phillip Ndamira and Nyogole Enock escalated into gunfire. Komuzaire Dan was injured, reportedly by Ndamira’s bodyguard.
* In Kamuli District, security forces neutralized Sowed Ilgumbye, accused of kidnapping a man named John Bosco Kauma, who was being transported in a Toyota Harrier (registration UAR 749F). Five others were detained in connection with the case.
* In Paidha Town Council, Zombo District, a woman was shot with arrows while returning from a political rally in an attempted murder incident.
* A taxi along the Lira–Dokolo Road carrying suspected “bouncers”—allegedly hired to disrupt the vote in Dokolo South—was intercepted by security forces.
* In Nawandala Subcounty, Iganga District, a candidate was found to have ferried 69 students, believed to be from the Law Development Centre, to influence the voting. They were arrested early Thursday morning.
Police confirmed that all incidents are under investigation and promised legal action against the perpetrators. The public has been urged to cooperate with security agencies to ensure a peaceful conclusion to the elections.
