Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu has been implicated
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I News just in is that female political aspirants seeking to run on the ticket of the National Unity Platform (NUP) pay an arm and a leg to get it, in addition to sexual favors.
This prompted Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, commonly known as Bobi Wine, the NUP president to launch investigations into the claims.
Reports have revealed that sexual harassment and extortion is committed by high-ranking members of the party, including individuals close to the party president.
At a press conference held midweek at the party headquarters in Makerere Kavule, Bobi Wine acknowledged that these claims are rooted in the ongoing vetting and harmonization process in preparation for the 2026 general elections.
Numerous social media reports assert that some officials, including Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, Bobi Wine’s elder brother, have been soliciting bribes from aspiring candidates in exchange for endorsement and party membership cards from NUP.
Additionally, there are grave allegations from female aspirants who claim they experienced sexual coercion and harassment by unknown party members during the vetting process.
Kyagulanyi said that in order to address this allegations, they have launched an independent investigation led by our Deputy President, Jolly Tukamushaba, to exhaustively examine these allegations and recommend appropriate measures as needed.”
He encouraged concerned individuals and party members with relevant information to come forward and share their testimonies with the committee for ‘appropriate redress.’
These revelations have cast doubt on the party’s internal democratic processes and its commitment to break away from the patronage and corruption.
“We must be distinct,” Kyagulanyi said. “We must hold ourselves accountable to maintain the moral authority to oppose the dictatorship.”
Furthermore, as the predominant opposition party in the nation, NUP faces mounting pressure from both critics and supporters to ensure transparency in its nomination procedures.
NUP has attracted thousands of aspirants nationwide seeking a NUP ticket, which could be pivotal for the party.
