Sheena Namagembe opens up
HABARI DAILY I Kampala, Uganda I One of Uganda’s most gifted and recognized songwriters, Namagembe Sheena, known as Sheena Skies, recently shared her thought about Uganda’s music industry.
In an exclusive interview with Mr. Henrie on Galaxy TV recently, she said that talent alone isn’t sufficient.
“I have come to terms with the fact that numerous individuals whom I considered less talented have achieved greater success than I have,” she said.
She added that as a result, she took it upon herself to learn how to write, sing, and produce music. “But I have faced numerous challenges, such as not receiving payment from musicians despite investing significant effort in their music,” she said.
“In Uganda’s music industry, talent by itself doesn’t guarantee success. This is a lesson I had to internalise and learn from. But despite my hard work, the returns have been minimal,” she said, her voice filled with emotion.
Additionally, she commented on fellow songwriters Dokta Brain and Daddy Andre, who have recently been involved in a dispute over who is superior. According to Sheena, they both possess unique qualities.
She mentioned that Dokta Brain leans towards rap with more impactful punchlines, while Andre tends to focus on melodic songwriting.
